Absolutely adored painting this view of hay bales in Umbria from my recent trip. The hay has the ability to capture so many complex cool and warm colours that is really fascinating to tease out. I love this composition. I guess it’s the bales that lead the eye out to mountains it seems to balance well too. I am really missing the heat and light of the Italian summer. It was close to this field that we saw a porcupine late one evening. They are wild in Umbria. What an incredible sight. It’s such a gorgeous, remote and wild part of Italy.
