“Salmonberry” is another in my wild edibles series of paintings.
The salmonberry is a member of the rose family and the fruit the resembles raspberry. Salmonberries begin with a deep rose blossom that comes out in early spring on shrubs that grow beside streams and in boggy places. The fruit ripens May to July in yellows, oranges, and reds. The taste is mild, not as tart as a raspberry.
According to my reading, local indigenous people gathered them, mixed them with Oolichan grease and served them with smoked salmon or salmon roe (Wikipedia and other online sources).
This 7x7 inch watercolor on paper is sold without a mat or frame. It will be carefully packaged and sent via Canada Post with tracking. “Salmonberry” is another in my wild edibles series of paintings.
