I've been working on larger sized artwork and am still continuing the 'Zoo Faces' series. I just finished a portrait of three giraffes titled 'Giraffes, We three.' I composed the painting from reference photos I took during a visit to Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. The baby and several female giraffes were waiting to be fed hay by the zoo keepers. Sunlight streaming in from the windows in the Giraffe House illuminated the giraffes. I decided to keep the background simple by using a triad color combination. The rust playing against the teal blue also created a dramatic backdrop for the giraffes. 'Giraffes, We Three' was selected for the Norfolk Art Center's 2014 Annual Juried Art Show that runs April 3rd - May 3rd.
