Labyrinths are symbolic pathways that have existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Labyrinths are continuous paths that lead to a center point, whereas a maze has confusing paths and dead-ends that you must navigate to escape. A labyrinth is used for prayer or meditation, to relax and create mindfulness. As this is an intricate design, I drew the labyrinth on the canvas first, painted the design in green, and then did my best to use continuous strands of yarn to "paint" the design. I wasn't able to do this perfectly, but the effect is there and that's what is important. My original intent was to have 2 strands of yarn, representing 2 people, enter the labyrinth separately, follow the path side-by-side, and then merge into one strand and one heart in the center. If you look carefully you will see that effect, even though the going got tight in some places for the 2 strands. Keep this labyrinth on your desk or altar space, trace the design with your finger and allow this labyrinth to provide a moment of contemplation in your busy day. This yarn labyrinth is pleasantly tactile, but if you don't want it to get soiled over lots of time and touching then put it in a glass frame to protect it. The creation of this design was a meditation in itself, as have been all of the yarn paintings. I've long admired and been fascinated by the Huichol yarn paintings of Mexico. My husband's sister Alice is saving yarn scraps for me, providing an unusual "palette" of colors. I am offering this piece in my Etsy shop to be able to provide a framing option as well. You will be redirected to that shop. Labyrinths are symbolic pathways that have existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
