I found this still life already set up for me at the Sonnenberg Mansion in Canandaigua NY. This is located in the library on the first floor. There was a lamp right next to the clock which helped bring out the highlights of the metal.
This was one of those paintings that just seemed to come together without much trouble. I started it with a coat of ultramarine blue, some of it shows through in the final paper and adds a nice contrast to the warm colors of the wood and brass. I started to paint in the intricate detail in the doilies but I decided to paint it out because it was detracting from the focal point
