It was the reflection of the water that first attracted me to this scene. I like the contrast of the dark shadows with the bright white cloud reflections in the water. You may recognize the red building in the background from a previous painting, which is a hardware store.
At first, I didn't like how the foot bridge divides the painting in half horizontally but I decided that the main shapes of the painting are the sky and the ground-which aren't of equal size. There are well known rules for composition, but for every rule there is a masterpiece in a museum that breaks it.
