I, along with my friend Lucyna, participated in the 2023 Douglas Land Conservancy Plein Air Event this past Saturday. Participants were allowed on property protected by the Douglas Land Conservancy conservation easement. I was told there were approx. 100 artists, beginners to professionals participating. The area we were allowed to access was fairly limited compared to what I heard was accessible in the past. Still, hundreds of painting possibilities surrounded us. The morning came with abundant sunshine but as noon approached the skies started to change and we were quickly working to finish up and pack it up. We turned in our paintings and were told to come back at 3:00 for the Juror and Judge of Awards, Bruce A. Gómez, to announce the awards. Well, to our surprise, we came back at 2:45 and everyone was gone with the exception of a few DCL staff waiting under the tent. Turns out after we left DCL moved the time of the award presentation back because of the threatening weather. We totally missed it. Really bummed as we wanted to see all the artworks and hear what Bruce had to say about the works. Although, on the upside, a huge surprise for me as I was awarded Best of Show! This piece was the last one I did after completing one and scraping three others. Crazy, you just never know.
