This painting started as a setup on my deck rail. The cloth underneath the vase hung down about 2 ft. My original idea was to paint this on an 16" x 8" panel. I placed the vase in the upper 3rd of the panel. I thought it would be really cool to just have all that space below all that cacophony of shapes and color. Well, nope, that just did not work out. After studying it for a couple of weeks I just could not determine why. So, cut that panel in half. Much better!
