Media: Oil on MDF
Size: 7x5 in
Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 41/250. "LION SPIRIT", 7" x 5", oil on Canvas Board
I started painting this after a failed attempt at painting another portrait where I got a bit lazy with the drawing and proportions. After it failed so badly I wanted something to cheer me up. So I do something different, I go into my folder of inspirational works and see this drawing executed by William Forsyth and I decide to paint it because it seemed to be an easier option to just paint bold shapes and get an interesting amount of paint on the canvas board. In the end it worked, it saved my self-esteem which had taken a big hit after the failed one. I have decided to title this LION SPIRIT, I don't know exactly why but because I was so lazy to mix greys I decided to infuse yellows together on his hair and beard and now he ends up having this lion look. It was painted with the outside-in technique, in full Alla Prima.
