Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 131/250 (5). "THE BLACK MONK", 8" x 10" Oil on Board.
Done as a demo for Portrait Diploma I at Heatherleys to explain edges and how important drawing, values and edges always helps to create a 3 dimensional feel to anything we paint regardless. Hard- I can clearly see the transition between the planes, it's clearly defined and separate. Soft- I can see the transition between the planes, but it is a gradual transition. Lost- I can't see the translation between the planes. This was also painted with the Zorn Palette- which is what we treated in the first week after drawings and sketches in the first morning.
