When I was a child, we had an older neighbor down the street named Mrs. Smith. She was an artist, gardener, and creator of dollhouses and miniatures. I adored her. Mrs. Smith's yard was a jungle of colorful and beautiful flowers and near the road she grew hollyhocks.
I don't know if she planted hollyhocks across the road near the stone wall and tree line or if the seed scattered in the wind, but tall, slender stalks grew there, as well. To this day every time I see a hollyhock, I think of Mrs. Smith.
