A rose is lovely. And I do adore them, but no more and no less than I adore all the other flowers in the garden. I think I would appreciate them more if they weren't so exuberantly praised. Yet painting them is another story. I love to paint roses. The petals unfurl to capture highlights and cast shadows in captivating ways. And though a very feminine flower, it's petals are distinctly angular, which is a more masculine quality. Today's teabag art may be painted again. It's not easy to get the acrylic inks to behave the way you intend them to when painting on a reclaimed teabag. The shadow color dried much darker than intended, and the rose has an outlined look which I detest. Still, it was a joy to paint and a joy to photograph with "The Artist's Garden" book photos.
