Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reintroduced wild turkeys to Tennessee in the 1990s, and I'm so grateful they did. Take a drive along the Natchez Trace Parkway on any afternoon and you are sure to see deer grazing and turkeys, well, being turkeys. Wild turkeys have long, fan-shaped tails that they spread during courtship displays. The tail feathers are tipped with a light buff color, and their other plumage is iridescent with shades of bronze, green, gold, and copper. This shimmering effect is particularly noticeable in sunlight. This watercolor was created as part of the Tennessee Birds series.
