Mignonette Strawberry IIFrom the Gardens of Jane Austen Series In the spirit of Jane Austen's own keen delight in the domestic and the natural, this luminous watercolor captures a single mignonette strawberry in its full garden glory at Chawton Cottage. I painted it this morning as the class demonstration painting for a class I was teaching in Franklin, TN. It is the sort of strawberry Jane herself might have written home about — worthy of a line in a letter to dear Cassandra, tucked between news of neighbors and the price of muslin — "and the strawberries, my dear, are really something this year."
