My heart and soul live among the American Impressionists of the early 20th century. I love their style, subject matter, raison d'etre. This year I'm leading my students through all the reasons to love the American Impressionists and on occasion will be painting studies of their works. Here is a sample. It is my study and class demonstration of a Guy Rose painting of the Laguna Coast from 1910. What captures my interest is his use of complementary colors yellow and violet and the beautifully painted morning atmospheric perspective.
