“Hollyhocks” 9 x 12 acrylics on canvas This is a study of a beautiful Mary Hiester Reid garden painting from 1914. An American Impressionist who attended the Philadelphia School of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and The Academie Colarossi in Paris, she met her husband, Canadian George Agnew Reid, in art school. They married in 1885. So many refer to her as a Canadian Impressionist which is a misnomer. Her heart, style, and philosophy were clearly aligned with American Impressionism. I admire this painter who rose to prominence in a time when women were rarely allowed to pursue art as a career. “Hollyhocks” 9 x 12 acrylics on canvas This is a study of a beautiful Mary Hiester Reid garden painting from 1914.
