Okay, this holiday, as we host the curious creatures (that we may or may not have given birth to) let us remember that we do not have to be engaged in direct physical encounter every minute of the visit. Hence, herewith is depicted an "English Drawing Room" (Also known as the "Withdrawing Room", a term that indicated a place in the house to step away to, be quiet, maybe have an intimate moment WITH YOURSELF. So technically, a garden could be your drawing room, or in my early married days around my husbands loud, talkative family, I would step out to the quiet garage, alone...to just...gather myself. To get through the holidays with grace, you will need a strong game of "not noticing", "having no opinion" and dare I say, "acceptance"?!! But when your 'game' is slipping a little, take a break from all of the 'acceptance' and 'flexibility'...maybe your journal can function as YOUR "Drawing Room": indulge in a little ranting, a few thoughts about what gifts you can bring to the situation, etc., then put on your lipstick and get back out there! (A Drawing Room is basically 'time out' for grown ups, and you can put YOURSELF in 'time out' whenever you need it! XO) Okay, this holiday, as we host the curious creatures (that we may or may not have given birth to) let us remember that we do not have to be engaged in direct physical encounter every minute of the visit.
