. This painting is of one of my grand children who spent a week with us this Fall. During her visit we went to the annual 'butterfly exhibit' that happens every winter at an our local botanical gardens. The 'butterfly program' ships in chrysalises from Costa Rica, South America, Southeast Asia and Africa; and over the course of Fall, Winter, Spring, one can visit and see 100 different butterflies as the chrysalises hatch open. Visitors walk through (or sit on a bench) a very warm, humid greenhouse densely packed with orchids and all manner of tropical plants. The dazzling butterflies float around the humans...who can observe but not touch the butterflies. Still, the butterflies will float down onto a person if she is still. This particular grand daughter has always been a 'creature whisperer' so I was not surprised when she sat quietly, then raised her hand and a big butterfly landed on her hand. It was two magical creatures together, quietly communing! . This painting is of one of my grand children who spent a week with us this Fall.
